Bra Fitting Guide
To best present the girls in the most complimentary light, make sure they’re in the right brassiere. You know how that saying goes, if you got it, flaunt it! So, if you’ve been blessed with abundance, then by all means, don’t take your breasts for granted by hoisting them in plain Jane bras! They deserve sass! They deserve sexy! They deserve to be treated to fine lace and leopard print. It’s true, the bigger your breasts are, the more difficult it is to find a bra that fits right. Sometimes the underwire pinches, or you spill a bit over the top. But never fear, there is always a solution!
First of all, let’s bring out the soft tape measure and do a private fitting. In front of a mirror, measure underneath your breasts. Starting at your cleavage, pass the tape measure behind your back and around to your front. This is your band size.
Next, move the tape up to your armpits and measure above your breast. Write that number down on a piece of paper. Now, measure your breast at nipple level. Subtract the number you wrote down from the nipple-around-and-back measurement, and voila! That’s your cup-size!
0 to 1/2″ AA cup
1/2″ to 1″ A cup
1″ to 2 1/2″ B cup
2 1/2″ to 3 1/2″ C cup
3 1/2″ to 4 1/2″ D cup
4 1/2″ to 6″ DD (or E cup for some bras)
6″ to 7″ DDD (or F cup for some bras)
7″ to 8″ G cup
8″ to 9″ GG cup
9″ to 10″ H cup
10″ to 11″ HH cup
11″ to 12″ J cup
12″ to 13″ JJ cup
Also, it’s good to note that along with our moods, our breast size fluctuates just a bit when Aunt Flo swings by for a visit. Regardless, like all clothes, if it doesn’t fit right, return it! Several online shops, such as HipsandCurves.com, offer great customer service and return policies. Be sure to check out these bras!

This season, the focus is on dresses, big time. There are no rules when it comes to trendy plus size pants and skirts - anything goes!
Great bottoms are available in any length from capris, cropped, ankle and full lengths. The same is true with skirts, although skirts are more likely to be tiered or flowing and romantic. There is even a plentiful supply of the skirt/pant combo with gauchos, split skirts and culottes.
Pants are available in a variety of styles, from leggings to slim cut to full palazzo legs. My personal favorite is the boot cut, I think it adds a nice proportion to a plus-size figure

Accessorizing Tips for Plus Sizes

I admit it! I LOVE accessories! When in doubt you can always wear plain, classic clothing with fabulous accessories. The right ones can even make jeans and a white tee look like something special.
The purpose of accessories is to finish off and complement your look. If you are plus sized, your accessories should also be scaled larger. Your handbags, jewelry and other accessories should be scaled in proportion to your body size.
Don’t avoid belts if you are plus sized – they can instantly update a look. You can wear your belt anywhere from your waist to your hips – wherever it looks best on you. There are some fabulous chain belts available.
If you love clothes and accessories like I do, it can be easy to go overboard. I usually stick to one bold or trendy accessory of piece of jewelry and wear more classic or traditional pieces to fill out the look. For example, if I wore big hoop earrings (which I do quite often), I wouldn’t add a big chunky wooden necklace or an arm full of bangles. We’re not going for the gypsy look (well I’m not, not usually anyway….).
Here is a rule of thumb I learned years ago that I still use. When in doubt, remove on accessory.

Plus Size Special Occasion Tips

Perhaps nothing is more challenging than shopping for plus size special occasion wear. The challenges are many - finding the right style for the event in a color and style that is flattering to you and that at the same time expresses your own unique personality.
My first suggestion is to go with a style that flatters your body style. If you are heavier on the bottom, go for a dress that has a fitted bodice and a higher, or even empire waist. If you carry most of your weight around the middle, go for something that shows off your great legs. If you have the coveted hourglass shape, find a dress that flaunts your beautiful shape and curves.
I know it is tempting to stick with black, and most of the time it is hard to go wrong with black, but at least consider a beautiful color. Bright vivid colors are in style in a big way. If you don’t know your best colors, or if you are “cool” or “warm”, here is a primer on which colors would look best on you.

Gauchos are shorter and narrower (like wide long shorts).
Culottes are longer and wider (like a long split skirt).

While there is no set rule, Capri Pants are generally those that end mid-calf and are tighter around the calf. Cropped pants hit lower than that - usually a few inches above the ankle, and are wider at the leg opening. Many Petite women can wear both as full length pants. Both styles are much more flattering if they end below the widest part of the calf. Many retailers use the terms interchangeably, so always check the inseam length. |
